2000 & Beyond

  1. 2024 – UMW Holdings Berhad completes delisting from Bursa Malaysia and joins Sime Darby Berhad as its wholly‑owned subsidiary.
  2. 2023 – UMW Lubetech Sdn. Bhd. officially opened its new automated lubricants blending plant in Pulau Indah Industrial Park, Klang.
  3. 2023 – UMW Industrial Power Services Sdn. Bhd. appointed as authorised distributor of INNIO’s Jenbacher engines in Malaysia, marking the company’s first venture into green/renewable energy.
  4. 2022 – UMW registered a record-high 383,054 vehicles in 2022, with UMW Toyota Motor leading the non-national segment and Perodua achieving its highest annual sales.

2018

  1. Joint venture with Komatsu Ltd established, forming a strategic partnership with UMW.

2017

  1. Celebrated 100 years in operations.
  2. Delivered its first fan case produced at its new manufacturing plant in Serendah.

2015

  1. Selected as Rolls‑Royce Plc’s Tier‑1 partner, via a 25 + 5 year contract to manufacture fan cases.

  1. UMW Oil & Gas Corporation Berhad listed on Bursa Malaysia, in the largest IPO in Malaysia that year.

  1. Achieved more than RM 2 billion PBT, the first time in its listing history, marking its 12th record performance.

  1. Rationalized diversified operations into four Strategic Business Units: Automotive; Equipment; Manufacturing & Engineering; Oil & Gas.

1980 – 1999

  1. 1999 – Celebrated 30 years as a public listed company.
  2. 1994 – Launched the Perodua Kancil; within four months it became Malaysia’s second‑best selling car.
  3. 1993 – Became the largest shareholder of Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn. Bhd. (Perodua)
  4. 1990 – Toyota became the top seller in Malaysia’s non‑national car market.
  5. 1988 – Completed capital reconstruction with PNB becoming largest shareholder; UMW Corporation Berhad converted to private status.
  6. 1987 – Transitioned into UMW Holdings Berhad, listing on both KLSE and Singapore Exchange; Sejati Motor renamed UMW Toyota Motor.
  7. 1985 – United Motor Works (Malaysia) Holdings Berhad renamed UMW Corporation Berhad.
  8. 1982 – Appointed as distributor for Toyota in Malaysia & Singapore; group turnover exceeded RM 1 billion
  9. 1980 – Introduced new corporate logo to mark organizational integration.

1950 – 1979

  1. 1971 – Moved headquarters to Batu Tiga Complex, Shah Alam.
  2. 1970 – Incorporated as United Motor Works (Malaysia) Holdings Berhad; listed on KLSE.
  3. 1967 – Acquired Toyota forklift agency for Malaysia & Singapore.
  4. 1965 – Awarded Komatsu distributorship by Komatsu Ltd.
  5. 1962 – Signed first Mitsubishi Heavy Industries franchise.
  6. 1961 – Added industrial equipment to the Group’s operations.
  7. 1954 – Reorganized KL and Penang operations into main offices.
  8. 1950 – Eric Chia joined United Motor Works (Malaya).

1900 – 1949

  1. 1949 – Established United Motor Works (Penang) Sdn. Bhd.
  2. 1936 – Acquired Pennzoil lubricant agency from Pennzoil Products Company, USA.
  3. 1927 – United Motor Works Ltd founded in Singapore – predecessor of modern UMW.
  4. 1917 – Founder Chia Yee Soh opened automotive repair shop in Orchard Road, Singapore.
